Amec Foster Wheeler Instrument Engineer in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia

Wood is recruiting for an Instrumentation Engineer to join our Sadara Enterprise project in Saudi Arabia. The position will be based in our office in Al-Khobar and has an expected duration of six months, although there is the possibility of follow-on work in the future.

This role will work in a multidiscipline team environment where the overall success of the project is paramount. Being a team player and having the interpersonal skills to interact effectively with other team members and other disciplines is essential.

  • Perform all assigned work to agreed Safety, Health & Environmental standards and demonstrate a commitment to attaining high levels of HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) performance

  • Participate in and advise on all design activities and initiatives, including provision of training, inductions and documentation review

  • Ensure that all designs are up to required standards and that the project objectives are met. Ensure that the work is completed to the agreed schedule and budget

  • Prepare project-related standards, specifications and job notes. Review flowsheets for correctness with respect to instrumentation

  • Prepare project instrument index in accordance with the flowsheets. Responsible for design and requisitioning of instrumentation, including instrument sizing and selection, calculations and verification checks

  • Assist Instrument Designers with the preparation of instrumentation drawings. Prepare technical bid analysis for instrumentation

  • Provide guidance to project engineers and other discipline engineers on Instrumentation engineering matters. Review instrumentation aspects of package unit supplier’s drawings

  • Interact proactively with other disciplines to ensure overall project goals are met. Drive innovative solutions to reduce cost and schedule

  • Participate in relevant meetings, such as Model Reviews, HAZOP, Design reviews. Use suitable technology to increase efficiency

  • Report on progress of assigned work tasks; identify and highlight potential issues. Advise management of variations in a timely manner

  • Support the Lead Control and Instrumentation Engineer and Management where required. Supervise junior Engineers

  • Keep up to date with latest company procedures, client requirements and international standards. Keep abreast of new developments in the instrumentation engineering field

  • Relevant degree level qualification in Engineering

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the oil and gas industry

  • Minimum of 2 years working in a similar multidiscipline team environment

  • Conversant with relevant international standards and Codes of Practice

  • Working knowledge of Saudi Aramco Standards (preferred) and Wood Procedures (preferred)

  • MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint & Outlook)

  • Knowledge and experience of a wide range of C&I equipment and its application in both conventional and safety-related applications

  • Working knowledge of Safety Instrumented System design requirements. Keen safety awareness

  • Working knowledge of SPI / Intools, Foundation Fieldbus design methods and IEC hazardous area requirements

  • Understanding of FEED and Detailed design engineering work processes, cost control & scheduling

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language
